Explore the Scenic Route: Self-Driving Adventure from Austria to the Dolomites Alps
The Austrian Lake District and the Dolomites have always been on my list of destinations. The geographical location is completely feasible for a self-driving trip, but there are very few shares of this itinerary on Xiaohongshu. I’m sharing the route here.
🚗9-day itinerary: Vienna – Lake District – Innsbruck – Funes Valley – Ortisei Town – Tre Cime di Lavaredo – Grossglockner Glacier Road – Salzburg – Vienna – Budapest
[Explosion R] Note: The itinerary is packed, suitable for those with good stamina!

💗DAY1: Grundlsee + Hallstatt
Direct flight from Shenzhen to Vienna, upon early arrival, rent a car at the airport (with IDP), drive about 3 hours to reach the lake district and start sightseeing, then drive to Gosau in the evening.
Accommodation – Cooee alpin Hotel Dachstein
💗DAY2: Gosau + St. Wolfgang
Highly recommend Gosau, my personal favorite in the lake district.

Walked to the second lake at Gosau, took about 2 hours including photo taking. In the afternoon, took the Schafbergbahn cog railway and strolled around the town.
Accommodation – Landhaus zu Appesbach, highly recommended, super beautiful!
💗DAY3: Innsbruck + Funes Valley
Need to set off early this day, drive 2.

5 hours to Innsbruck, rest and walk around a bit, then take A13 (additional tolls required), within Italy it’s a toll road, 2 hours to reach Funes Valley, after watching the sunset, depart at 7:00 PM for Ortisei Town.
Accommodation – casa al sole
💗DAY4: Sella Group + Seiser Alm
Bought a Superpass, took two cable cars up the Sella Group in the morning, not much hiking, more hiking in the afternoon at Seiser Alm, but the weather was not good in the afternoon, please share the beautiful scenery of Seiser.

..
💗DAY5: Braies Lake + Tre Cime di Lavaredo
Drive 1.5 hours to reach Braies Lake, walk around the lake for about 1.5 hours, in the afternoon drove to the parking lot of the Sella Group, chose the Lord of the Rings trail for hiking, took photos for about 3 hours.
Accommodation – Heiligenblut, drive 1.

5 hours the next day to reach Grossglockner.
💗DAY6: Grossglockner + Salzburg
Drive through the Grossglockner Glacier Road, then about 3 hours to Salzburg, visit the Hohensalzburg Fortress, and return to Vienna to return the car.
Accommodation – MOOONS
💗Day7: Vienna
City walk, lots of cheap Chanel, buy!

💗DAY8: Vienna + Budapest
Visit Belvedere Palace in the morning, take a 2.5-hour train to Budapest at noon, evening boat tour + night view check-in.
Accommodation – callas house
💗DAY9: Budapest city walk, return to Shenzhen in the evening.
My favorite city on this trip, having visited many European cities while studying in the UK, but this place still surprised me, not only because of the dazzling night views but also due to its history and culture!
