Experience the Hanoi Metro in Vietnam: A Must-Try for Travel Enthusiasts

The long-awaited Cát Linh – Hà Đông metro line in Hanoi has finally become a reality, and it’s been the talk of the town for quite some time. Today, I’m here to share my firsthand experience with you.

First things first, the ticket price is surprisingly wallet-friendly. A full journey will only set you back 15,000 VND, which is just a little over 4 RMB—definitely a bargain!

When it comes to purchasing tickets, the process is quite straightforward. You can use self-service machines, much like in China, or buy directly from the counter. However, one minor inconvenience is that the self-service machines don’t accept QR code payments. If you opt for the counter, simply tell the staff your destination, and they’ll help you choose the right station. The counter does support both QR code and cash payments, making it convenient for most travelers.

Oh, and a quick tip: if you plan to use QR codes, make sure you have a Vietnamese bank card handy!

During my ride, I noticed that the train wasn’t very crowded. This is likely because many locals still prefer their trusty motorcycles, and with only one line currently operational, the destinations are somewhat limited.
