Discover Affordable Mount Kinabalu Climbing: RM1.5k All-Inclusive Packages Available

It has been more than half a year since I conquered Mount Kinabalu, but I still can’t forget the awe it brought me! Whether you are a fitness enthusiast or a beginner, you can try to conquer Mount Kinabalu. As long as you practice, the journey to the summit will not be too difficult.

I arranged my own trip to climb Mount Kinabalu, so I needed to arrange my own accommodation, itinerary, and transportation. The cost of climbing Mount Kinabalu was only about ₥508. If you sign up with an external travel agency, it would cost around ₥1500, which is exactly ₥1000 more expensive!

Below are the details and costs of my Mount Kinabalu expedition (purely personal sharing, remember to save if you need it):
1. Booking mountain dormitory🏠
– Book the Mount Kinabalu package on the Sabah Park official website (Figure 2), including accommodation, self-service dinner, supper, and breakfast, the cheapest package is ₥508.

– I chose Lemaing, which is only open to *Malaysian citizens*.
– Lemaing has bunk beds that can accommodate 20 people. Beds are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
– You need to provide your name, IC, and email for booking. After successful booking, you will receive a confirmation email and Booking no.

*If you want a more comfortable environment, you can choose Panalaban at ₥722.*

2. On the day of the climb🌄
– We arrived at Sabah Park at 7 am, went to the counter to register, and needed a copy of the IC (we prepared our own, as we read in previous shares that photocopying at the counter costs RM5).
– You need to scan a QR code to fill out a form and a waiver. If you have already filled it out via email, you don’t need to do it again.

– Purchase a mountain guide. One guide can lead 5 people, ₥350/5, which is ₥70 per person.
– Apply for a porter (minimum 10kg, RM14 per kg) and rent trekking poles (one pole is ₥10).
*Friends who are not physically fit can rent two poles, which saves more energy.*
– Pay RM10 for a colored certificate after reaching the summit.

– Transportation to Timpohon Gate is RM10.

Airfare: Round-trip tickets RM500 (AirAsia, 20kg)
– We shared one luggage between two people because we also had a two-day trip before climbing Mount Kinabalu.
– Before climbing, we left our luggage in the car, which was parked in the parking lot near Sabah Park.

Transportation costs: Rented a car for 4 days from Trevo before departure (Figure 3), which was very convenient for free movement. Since it’s all mountain roads, confirm the brake condition of the car with the owner after booking.
The total cost was RM293 for 4 days. It was very cost-effective using a discount code.

These are the total costs for the climb. If you’re considering extending your stay, I highly recommend doing so before the climb. After the ascent, you’ll likely be completely exhausted and barely able to walk, limping around everywhere 😂
