Malaysia has opened visa-free access, and many people will go to East Malaysia’s Semporna and Sabah for vacations. However, Langkawi is truly a hidden gem of a coastal city in West Malaysia, where you can see crystal clear waters at a low cost!

In 2018, there were direct flights from Guangzhou to Langkawi, with a flight duration of about 5 hours. Upon arrival, you could withdraw Malaysian Ringgit from ATMs at the airport and purchase a Malaysian SIM card. English is mainly spoken in Langkawi, but there’s no need to worry too much about language barriers; simple words and translation apps can help you get around easily!!

📍Paya Island
Known as the “Great Barrier Reef of the South China Sea,” it’s my favorite island in Langkawi. The water is incredibly clear, and from the floating platform, you can see many tropical fish that you usually only see in aquariums 🦐. Buy bread in town the day before, and when you go snorkeling 🤿, many tropical fish will swim over. The buffet on the floating platform is surprisingly delicious, and you might even see baby sharks near the shore 🦈.

📍Pantai Cenang
The best place to watch the sunset in Langkawi. There are many sunset restaurants by the beach where you can enjoy dinner while watching the sunset 🌄. There are also many activities available, and I recommend going paragliding 🪂 during sunset; the view of the sea and sunset from above is truly breathtaking!

📍Sky Bridge
One of the world’s top ten thrilling bridges ❗️ This is where Chen Qiaoen and Alan went on their date. At the foot of the mountain is Malaysia’s largest 3D art museum, and you need to take a cable car 🚡 to reach the top.

📍Island Hopping
Sign up at the hotel front desk for a tour of the southern islands. The trip will take you through several small islands, including fishing and island exploration! There are many monkeys on the islands that will ask for food, and some with bad tempers might even snatch things ⚠️. It’s a good idea to bring some small cookies or bread to feed them.

The UV index in Langkawi is very high, so make sure to apply sunscreen!! The stores here sell SPF 150 sunscreen, which I’ve never seen in China [Laughing R]. If it’s your first time, you must try henna hand painting; it’s cheaper here than in other parts of Malaysia and China, around 10 RM!!

Langkawi is a duty-free island, and the chocolate variety in the duty-free shops is extensive. Beryl’s, a local Malaysian brand, is the cheapest in all of Malaysia ❗️ If you want to buy chocolate, make sure to do it at the duty-free shop in Langkawi town!! The airport prices are higher and the selection is smaller!!
