Discover Perhentian Island Conservation, Transport, and Local Food Experiences 🐢🪸
Some insider tips that might be a bit tricky to find on Google 😏

🛵 Transportation (Figures 2-3)
No motorbike rentals here, but you can hop on a water taxi for your island adventures. Whether you’re traveling within the same island or hopping between two, expect to pay between RM5 and RM35 for a one-way trip. After 7 PM, prices double, so plan accordingly. The rates are fairly consistent across different shops, with a maximum difference of RM5.

Some destinations are walkable, but be prepared for challenging road conditions or a trek through the forest, especially on the larger island. It’s more like a hike than a leisurely stroll 😂. If you’re planning to explore multiple spots in a day, renting a kayak is a cost-effective option, though your arms might need a good rest afterward.

🥣 Eating
The island offers a delightful mix of Western and Malay cuisine. Here’s a quick price guide:
– Dinner/Lunch: RM10 – RM20+
– Breakfast: RM6 – RM12
Bringing some snacks from home is a smart move, as local prices can be 1.5 times higher. For example, my Magnum ice cream was RM9, compared to RM4.90 in KL. There’s no duty-free shopping here, so don’t count on buying alcohol at a discount 🥂.

🚤 How to get there
I started my journey with a bus ride from KL TBS to Kuala Besut Bus Terminal (RM35-49). From the bus terminal, it’s a short 10-minute walk to Kuala Besut Jetty. I booked a boat with Seven Seas and had to visit their office near the jetty to collect the physical ticket. During peak season, the office can get crowded, so it’s best to arrive an hour early.

Pulau Perhentian only has speedboats, no ferries. The exhilarating 30-40 minute speedboat ride will drop you off right at your hotel. If you’re prone to seasickness, take motion sickness medicine beforehand.

👉🏻 Coral Replanting (Alunan Resort) (Figures 4-5)
The coral planting experience, if I recall correctly, costs RM50. Even though I just passed by, the staff were incredibly enthusiastic and informative, making it a memorable stop ☺️.

👉🏻 Turtle Perhentian Project (Turtle Conservation Project)
For a chance to see baby turtles, reach out to them on Instagram. My friend did this and had a heartwarming experience ❤️.

👉🏻 Fuze Ecoteer (Conservation and Environmental Projects)
Located in Fishermen Village, they offer various special activities. You can contact them to see what’s available. The recycling bins around the village are a testament to their dedication to the environment ❤️.
☺️ FYI
All accommodations on the island may experience occasional power outages since they rely on their own generators. So, save ⚡ when you can. Things on the island are generally more expensive because the locals bear the cost of repairing damage from the monsoon season, and they only break even from June to August. Knowing this, you can spend your money with a clear conscience 😂.
