Yogyakarta Airport to City: Ultimate Travel Guide & Transportation Tips
✈️ Yogyakarta International Airport: The New Yogyakarta International Airport (NYIA) opened its gates in mid-2019, nestled in the scenic region of Kulon Progo, Yogyakarta. This modern facility is situated 45 kilometers from the bustling city center, with a typical drive taking about one and a half hours.

Travelers can choose from various transportation options including cars, buses, and trains. For a seamless and stress-free journey, it’s highly recommended to buy train tickets from the airport to the city center in advance.

👍 Reasons for recommending the purchase of train tickets:
1️⃣ Cost-effective: A train ride costs just a few Singapore dollars, while a taxi could set you back several dozen.
2️⃣ Swift and reliable: Reach the city center in just half an hour, bypassing traffic jams that can extend a car journey to over two hours.
3️⃣ Frequent departures: Trains run from 5 am to 9 pm, with services departing every half hour or so, ensuring you can find a convenient time to travel.

🚄 Train ticket purchasing process (Figures 2-8):
1️⃣ Download the “Ka Bandara” app on your smartphone.
2️⃣ Navigate to the bottom right corner and select “account” to switch the language to English.
3️⃣ Tap the registration button under Account, and enter your details; both local and international numbers are accepted.

4️⃣ Return to the home page and search for tickets from “Yogyakarta INT Airport” to “Yogyakarta.”
5️⃣ Choose your preferred train schedule, select your seat, and complete the payment process.

📍 Route from the airport to the train station (Figures 11-13):
1️⃣ After landing, head right as you exit the main gate.
2️⃣ Follow the signs to the train, and take the escalator up.
3️⃣ Walk past a row of shops, turn right, and continue following the train signs to reach the station.

⚠️ Precautions:
1️⃣ Plan ahead and buy tickets in advance, as popular time slots tend to sell out quickly.
2️⃣ If you’re unable to book in advance, on-site ticket purchases are available at the train station, with staff ready to assist you.
3️⃣ Upon arriving in the city center, if you need a ride, it’s best to walk to the main road to call a Grab. The area around the train station can be quite congested, making it difficult for cars to pick you up.
