Explore Bromo Volcano’s Beauty Safely: Essential Tips for a Risk-Free Visit
The Bromo trip is a rewarding experience for all who venture here.
The breathtaking sight of the sunrise illuminating the crater is undeniably stunning,
but I would caution against staying up all night just to catch it. There are many other places with similar, if not equally beautiful, views.
Whether you start from within the country or sign up locally, the journey typically begins around midnight.

😐
A small anecdote: I had a bit of a hiccup when I couldn’t reach the local driver who was supposed to pick me up. After an hour of anxious waiting, we finally got in touch, and he arrived to pick me up.
On the way, the driver was constantly distracted by his phone, which unfortunately led to a minor collision with a motorcycle on the road.

During this time, I struggled to communicate with the driver to resolve the issue and had to wait until he finished arguing with the motorcyclist.

The rest of the night was spent navigating dark, bumpy mountain roads. No sleep, the constant smell of gasoline, and crowds of people at every turn. By the time dawn approached, all the prime photo spots were already packed.

Ninety-nine percent of the visitors on the mountain were from our country, and the competition for a good spot often turned into loud arguments and even fights, making the atmosphere as chaotic as a bustling market.
Everyone on the Bromo trip spends the night without sleep, and as soon as the first light appears, they rush to find their cars to descend the mountain and climb the crater.

What a uniquely challenging itinerary.
🙂But “since we’re here” seems to be a universal spell that keeps us going.
🌋Here are some tips for those who still want to embark on this adventure:
1. The temperature on the mountain can vary significantly. Wear comfortable, stylish clothes underneath (avoid skirts, as you’ll need to climb the crater steps), and layer up with a windbreaker or thick jacket on top.

2. Most of your time will be spent waiting in the car or at roadside shops, and it can get very cold. If you can secure the front passenger seat, bring an eye mask and earplugs to try and catch some sleep.
3. You have the option to stay at the foot of the mountain or on the mountain itself, but! As I mentioned, it doesn’t change much; it just saves a little travel time.

4. The mountain where you view the volcano and the crater are different. The direction of the crater you see during the sunrise is the one you will climb afterward.
5. The guides’ cars are parked on the plain, giving you about an hour to climb the crater on your own.
6. In summary, the so-called tour is essentially just round-trip transportation, with no additional services provided.

7. Since I was traveling from Bali to Jakarta, I didn’t have a fixed itinerary and went solo, finding local tours. My experience can serve as a reference.
👉In Probolinggo, the cost to go to Bromo is 600k,
Probolinggo to Coban Rondo Waterfall is 800k,
and if you head to Surabaya airport, it’s 1000k.
