Discovering Strength: My Unforgettable Journey with the Indonesia Surabaya Chapter
The town around Semeru volcano is absolutely breathtaking! It exudes a Mount Fuji-like charm that’s simply mesmerizing. As the first volcano I encountered on my journey, it left an unforgettable impression, much like that first, invigorating sip of ice-cold cola on a sweltering summer day!

On the path to Sewu waterfall, there’s a picturesque spot that’s perfect for photos. The blend of the cascading waterfall, rugged canyon, and towering volcano creates a scene straight out of the Jurassic era! Be sure to grab a number and wait your turn for the perfect shot.

Climbing to Sewu waterfall was surprisingly easier than I had anticipated, but the chill in the air was more intense than expected! With the mist from the waterfall often carried by the wind, be ready to get drenched—it’s part of the adventure!

Mount Bromo is truly a sight to behold. I was fortunate enough to witness the smoking volcano set against a backdrop of a sea of clouds at mid-mountain. After this experience, no other cloud seas will ever compare! The temperature can drop quite a bit before sunrise, so it’s wise to bundle up.

Riding a horse to the crater of Mount Bromo is an experience not to be missed! It was my first time standing at the edge of a volcanic crater, and the thrill was unmatched! Just remember, safety first—keep a safe distance from the edge!

Ijen is renowned as the world’s most acidic volcanic lake. Although I didn’t see the famous blue fire, the experience was still incredible and a must-see for any adventurer. The climb takes about an hour, and starting early in the morning meant the ascent was comfortable, though it got chilly once we reached the top.

At the base, you can choose to ride in one of the many rickshaws, affectionately called “Lamborghinis” by the locals. The price is negotiable, and the drivers work tirelessly, navigating the steep slopes with skill. The descent can be slippery, so watch your step!

Due to the rush, the food options were fairly simple. Fried rice is always a reliable choice! Some of the noodle soups had unique flavors, which made for an interesting culinary adventure—definitely worth trying!
