Explore Auckland Hiking Trails: Tawharanui Regional Park Adventure

It’s been on my bucket list for ages, but the distance always seemed a bit daunting. Recently, with the perfect weather, I finally decided to make the trip 😄

Recommendation Level: 🌟🌟🌟🌟

The location is crucial; if you set the park as your destination, it can be quite a trek from the actual parking lot. It’s about an hour and a bit from the city, and the last few kilometers are winding, so extra caution is needed. But the moment you step out of the car, you’re greeted by the stunning Anchor Bay, and it instantly feels worth every kilometer.

The beach has a distinctly Australian vibe, and such a picturesque white sand beach is a rare find in New Zealand. If it weren’t so far from the city, it would undoubtedly be a top tourist hotspot.

There’s no shortage of activities to enjoy. If you’re in the mood for some sunbathing and surfing, the beach is the perfect spot. For those who prefer a bit of adventure, there are several hiking trails to choose from. I opted for the North Coast track, which winds all the way to Maori Bay, and then completed the Maori Bay loop.

It felt like having a private beach all to myself, reminiscent of the serene beauty of Queenstown. The water is crystal clear, and along the way, you’ll discover a treasure trove of shells and sea urchin shells. The entire loop took about 3 hours, and by the end, I was back at the parking lot, feeling refreshed and invigorated.

I’m already dreaming of a return visit, though the distance might mean it will be a while before I can make it happen again. Another item checked off the list, and it was a wonderfully summery and satisfying experience (∩_∩)
