Discover Dunedin’s Tunnel Beach: A Scenic Path Perfect for Romantic Getaways

🔸Every enchanting place holds a story, and this one is no exception. It’s a tale of both sorrow and profound love. Legend has it that a captain’s beloved daughter was tragically swept away by the relentless waves, leaving him heartbroken.

Instead of succumbing to despair, the grieving father decided to create a lasting tribute. He discovered a secluded beach, sheltered by reefs, and meticulously carved out a tunnel with 72 steps—the only passage to this hidden paradise. This way, his daughter could reach the serene beach without facing the perilous rocky path and find her way back home safely.

🔸Tragically, in 24 years, the trail was hit by landslides, blocking parts of the path and leading to its permanent closure.
🔸But even in sadness, there is a way to find beauty. Despite the trail’s closure, many adventurers still make their way to this mystical spot, creating new paths and climbing over fences.

After all, entry is officially forbidden, so it’s best to tread lightly and quietly 🤫

The trail is 2 kilometers long, and an hour round trip is enough

With the trail closed, it felt like my own private sanctuary. Wearing flip-flops, I dashed eagerly to the seaside.

The breathtaking scenery filled me with joy and excitement, washing away all my worries. The beautiful trail and the vast, endless sea were incredibly healing, reminding me of the gifts and boundless love nature has to offer ❤️. Unfortunately, the trail’s closure meant I couldn’t descend to the beach or see the real tunnel.

I hope to return when it reopens, and that it will once again be accessible, not just a memory 😅
