Discover the Unmatched Beauty of New Zealand in April Without Crowds 🥹
People should stay in places without ceilings.
I’ve come to the South Island of New Zealand for a while to experience a different side of New Zealand 🤩

👣 Route: Christchurch → Lake Tekapo → Mount Cook → Wanaka → Queenstown → Dunedin
🚗 The total distance is about 1000km, and it’s recommended to self-drive for 7-10 days.

📍 Christchurch: Visit the Christchurch Botanic Gardens to see the autumn sycamore avenue 🍂. It’s a great time to take photos! If you’re interested in history, be sure to visit the Canterbury Museum to learn about Maori culture and the natural history of the South Island.

📍 Lake Tekapo: This is the perfect time for stargazing 🌌. If you’re interested, book the Mount John Summit Tour to use professional telescopes to view Saturn’s rings 🪐. The Church of the Good Shepherd by the lakeside is made of stone; go behind the rocks for a photo with the Milky Way arch and cross! Don’t miss the Astro Café at the top of the mountain ☕, where you can overlook the milky blue lake and have a super chill experience 🤩.

📍 Aoraki/Mount Cook: New Zealand’s highest peak, plus 20km of glaciers! Hiking enthusiasts can try the Hooker Valley Track, which is beginner-friendly 👍. It takes about 3 hours round trip, and you can take an aerial shot of the glacial meltwater from the third suspension bridge – it’s amazing! Glacier hiking needs to be booked a month in advance! You can also eat fresh sashimi at Alpine Salmon near the foot of the mountain 🍣.

📍 Wanaka: A perfect little town for relaxing and daydreaming! The Lone Tree in autumn has a golden reflection like an oil painting 🖼. The Lone Tree is within walking distance from the center of Wanaka, and you can park on Brownston St! If you just want to take a leisurely walk, the Wanaka Outlet Track is beautiful and not crowded, making it ideal for relaxation.

📍 Queenstown: The most fun city! Take the Skyline Gondola for panoramic views of the mountains and lakes, just like in “The Lord of the Rings” film. Once up there, definitely try the luge, it’s super fun! At the Deer Park, you can get up close with deer, calves, alpacas, and horses… Book in advance ($55 per car).

📍 Dunedin: New Zealand has its own Edinburgh! Baldwin Street, the steepest residential street, is perfect for taking quirky photos 📷. The Sandfly Bay coastal trail offers stunning views and seals basking in the sun 🦭. The Gothic coastline at Tunnel Beach features natural stone arches and Skeleton Rock.
