Is Milford Sound in New Zealand Worth the Trip for Nature Lovers?
Most of the notes about this place often begin with warnings like “avoiding pitfalls”…

However, our conclusion: It’s absolutely worth it!!!!!

❤ As a unique landscape in China, you simply must visit it if you’re in the area!

❤ Even though we arrived on an overcast day, it still held its charm. It didn’t have the radiant beauty of a sunny day, nor the dramatic, apocalyptic feel of a rainy one.

❤ The journey is more than just the fjord; it’s a complete experience that includes wildlife and breathtaking scenery along the way.

⛰️ First off, Milford Sound, whether by boat cruise or by driving through the natural landscapes, is truly awe-inspiring. The mountains seem to rise majestically from the flat land. Driving on the winding mountain roads and watching the peaks gradually reveal themselves is a thrilling experience. There’s also a chance to see glaciers, adding to the wonder.

🦜 Near Money Creek, you might encounter kea, the cheeky parrots known for begging for food and even stealing car keys. These unique, endangered, and highly amusing New Zealand birds are a real highlight and add a touch of whimsy to the trip.

🌳 Milford Sound is also home to kiwi birds, but as they are nocturnal, spotting them requires a bit of luck. On our way out, our driver pointed out two ground-dwelling birds, suggesting they were kiwis. The sighting was so fleeting, and the photos too blurry to confirm, but it’s likely they were weka, another fascinating native bird.

🌿 This place is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. Although we didn’t get to hike this time, the allure of the trails left us eager to return and explore more.
❗️ It seems this place has mixed reviews, mostly due to the long drive from Queenstown. If it were just a half-hour trip, there probably wouldn’t be any warnings.
So, we opted for a guided tour. This is not an advertisement! We booked a one-day tour with a local boat company. The driver provided insightful commentary, and on the way back, with no more attractions to see, we took the opportunity to catch up on sleep (adjusting to the time difference), which was quite refreshing.
