Is the $599 Overnight Cruise in Milford Sound Worth the Cost for Nature Lovers?

I’ve had the pleasure of visiting Milford Sound multiple times, and I’ve even taken the day cruise twice. Just when I thought the breathtaking scenery might be losing its luster, this overnight cruise reignited my appreciation for its natural beauty. It dawned on me that my previous experiences only scratched the surface of what Milford Sound has to offer.

The overnight cruise provided an exciting option to either kayak or take a small boat to explore some hidden gems. I opted for the boat, and it was a decision I didn’t regret. The skilled staff member at the helm guided us through a chase after snow-capped mountains and the setting sun. Being so close to these majestic, slightly untamed peaks filled me with a sense of wonder at the sheer magnificence of nature.

The bright sunshine and tranquil waters added a touch of gentleness to the otherwise rugged landscape, creating a truly enchanting scene.

The next morning, the captain steered the ship out into the Tasman Sea. The pink hues of the sunrise, the deep blue of the sea, and the emerald green mountain peaks formed a picturesque tableau that left me in awe. We also got a glimpse of the end of the fjord, a sight that is both dramatic and serene. In the days that followed, the stunning vistas of the fjord kept replaying in my mind, a testament to the enduring beauty of this place.

For the overnight cruise experience, I would rate the scenery ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️, the food ⭐️⭐️⭐️, and the accommodation ⭐️⭐️⭐️. The buffet-style meals were adequate but not exceptional. The accommodations, while cozy, were a bit cramped and chilly for a May visit.
