Tongariro Crossing National Park
4 hours drive from Auckland
From the summit, you can see three turquoise lakes and a red mud volcano nearby. The photos are not filtered.
The entire hike takes 6 hours
You can book accommodation in the nearby town of Turangi
Although the mountain area is free, starting from October this year, a reservation will be required.

You can search for the Tongariro Alpine Crossing booking form
It’s best to book a shuttle as the starting point and the end point are not the same. Shuttles usually pick up customers from various hotels in the morning
There is a restroom midway up the mountain
