Explore Mount Cook, NZ: Helicopter Glacier Hike Cancellation & Adventure Alternatives
📍Tasman Helicopter🚁Glacier Hike
Woke up bright and early, drove for 1.5 hours to the meeting point, only to be hit with the disappointing news that it was too windy and all flights were canceled for today and tomorrow [crying emoji][crying emoji]

✅I had been eagerly anticipating this helicopter glacier hike and did a ton of research beforehand.

There are two companies that offer helicopter glacier hikes on the Tasman Glacier at Mount Cook: Mt. Cook Glacier (located on the ground floor) and The Helicopter Line (on the second floor). Both are highly professional and prioritize safety, with booking prices around 3,000 RMB per person.

🤩The guide mentioned that out of all the guests she has hosted, only about 40% manage to take off successfully.

Flights can’t proceed in rain, snow, strong winds, fog, or even when there are too many clouds—the conditions are extremely strict‼️If you’re planning this activity, I highly recommend staying a few extra days near Tekapo or Mount Cook, as the chances of flying increase significantly with more time.

Since we couldn’t take off, we decided to explore the nearby area and headed to the Tasman Glacier Lake Trail instead. It’s a 20-minute hike one way to the top. Unfortunately, the rain today dulled the scenery, and the lake water wasn’t its usual vibrant blue. The difference between sunny and rainy days is striking.

However, we were treated to over a dozen rainbows🌈along the way, more than I’ve ever seen in my life 😂😂
·
On our way back from Mount Cook ⛰️to Tekapo, we stopped by the popular glasshouse salmon shop, where a box of salmon costs around 60 RMB. I bought two boxes, and while the taste is not much different from what we have in China, the meat is a bit firmer and more satisfying 👍
·
There are two Aotea chain stores in Tekapo where you can find great souvenirs.

This store is also available in Queenstown. I stumbled upon a sweater that I absolutely loved, so I didn’t hesitate to buy it.
·
[Check-in] Tomorrow, we’re heading to Wanaka. The current weather forecast shows it will be cloudy, but I’m hoping for a bright and sunny🌞morning when we wake up.
