Unbeatable Mount Cook Salmon: A Must-Try Delicacy for Seafood Lovers 🤤
Mount Cook may not be a culinary hotspot, but one dish you absolutely must try is the alpine salmon. After weighing the pros and cons of two highly recommended spots, we opted for the one that was closer to us 😅

Nestled by the serene Lake Pukaki, this charming shop offers an outdoor seating area where you can savor your meal with a breathtaking view of the snow-capped mountains and the tranquil lake. We indulged in a medium-sized salmon, which was more than enough for two people, along with some fresh, plump, and incredibly sweet salmon roe. To top it off, we also ordered a smoked salmon spread, perfectly paired with a bag of crispy crackers.

With limited dining options in Mount Cook National Park, Chamois Bar & Grill stands out for its late hours and surprisingly good food. The taste and portion sizes were both impressive. We enjoyed a succulent steak and a perfectly grilled salmon, and I even finished the side salad, which was far from being just a filler. This place is definitely worth recommending.

🏨
We booked a cozy motel at Hermitage, which was half the price of a hotel and could only be reserved through their official website. Some travelers suggest staying in Twizel for better value, but after checking, the hotels there didn’t seem much more cost-effective, so we decided to stay within Mount Cook.

An unexpected incident occurred: my friend accidentally brought a cigarette butt back to the room and tossed it in the trash. Later, we received a call from the hotel, threatening to charge us for an extra night’s stay as a fine. We found this unreasonable and had a heated discussion, but ultimately, no charges were imposed.

It did, however, put a slight damper on our mood.
