“I have finally reached the end of the world, where the last lighthouse on the southern part of the American continent stands. Beyond it lies the vast and mysterious Antarctica.”

In Ushuaia, every attraction is a testament to being at the edge of the world. Sailing through the Beagle Channel, you can catch sight of the lighthouse that marks the end of the world. At the entrance of Tierra del Fuego National Park, you’ll find the post office at the end of the world, where the old man works according to his whims. The distant whistle of the little train, passing through the dark forest, adds a haunting melody to the air.

I can’t help but wonder what this place was like at the dawn of time. The weather here is as unpredictable as it is dramatic, shifting from gloomy skies to brilliant sunshine. As I walk by the sea, strong winds from Antarctica whip around me. In this wild and untamed world, seabirds soar overhead, while sea lions and penguins rule the islands. Humans, in comparison, seem insignificant, leaving only a quiet, respectful presence.

Sometimes, I marvel at how I’ve arrived at such a remote corner of the earth almost without realizing it. When traveling alone, it feels like stepping out of the main thread of life, no longer consumed by the questions that revolve around “me.” The clouds evoke a sense of freedom, and the mountains remind me of the eternal nature of the world.

Next time I come, I should have a ticket for the ship to Antarctica, right?

About my trip:
Three days felt just right, and it’s wise to prepare cash, as some travel agencies and restaurants offer discounts.
P2-4: Strolling around the town, I discovered the charming penguin wall and the iconic Ushuaia sign. The ships docked by the sea are all bound for Antarctica
P5-7: Piratour – Walk with Penguin, an unforgettable experience with many baby penguins on the island.

They are so close, and March is their molting season, making some look a bit shabby but still adorable
P8: The lighthouse at the end of the world, a three-hour boat trip. They say seeing a rainbow here brings good luck
P9: The post office at the end of the world, located right at the entrance of Tierra del Fuego National Park.

You can write your postcards in advance and bring cash to send them off
P10: The little train at the end of the world, accessible by bus if you’re not in a group. Buy tickets directly at the entrance, and you don’t need to hike into the national park to start your journey
P12: The handicraft market, where you should bring cash.

There are many handmade fridge magnets, postcards, and other delightful small items to take home as souvenirs
P13-14: I stayed in a beautiful Airbnb, with one side facing the mountain and the other the sea. The street by the sea felt incredibly convenient and serene
Ushuaia sounds like such an incredible place to visit! I love how it feels like standing on the edge of the world with all those stunning natural sights. Exploring the national park and seeing that iconic lighthouse must be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I’d definitely want to send myself a postcard from there!
