Ushuaia Travel Tips: Easily Overlooked Details for an Unforgettable Trip
Following the previous post (1.5 day itinerary recommendation), this one mainly talks about the details of traveling in Ushuaia:
📪
Putting it at the top: Don’t look for the End of the World Post Office, as it has been under renovation since March 2023, and with winter approaching, it’s unlikely to reopen this year.

🚕
Uber is very convenient in Ushuaia; you can take Uber from the airport, and regular taxis also use meters. The fare from the main city area to the airport is only around 4000 (about 30 RMB).
💰
⚠️The best way to exchange currency in Ushuaia: Use large US dollar bills when buying bus tickets or booking tours and have them give you change in pesos.

At exchange points or restaurants, either they don’t have US dollars, or the exchange rate is around 900, while travel agencies offer a rate of 1000:1 (but they won’t directly exchange cash for you). In Buenos Aires, the rate is 965:1.
✨Stamp
The Tourist Information Center (Centro de Información Turística) can stamp your passport with the Ushuaia stamp, so remember to go there.

🚌
Highly recommend the bus tour
It costs 10 USD per person. Both scenic stops are incredibly beautiful, and the onboard commentary gives you a quick overview of the entire city.
🥾
If you only have one day, you might not be able to see the penguins, as the boat ride to see them is quite long, and time will be tight (unless you rent a car).

However, you can see sea lions, cormorants, and the lighthouse. If you have two days, you can do the lighthouse and Tierra del Fuego on day 1, and see the penguins on day 2.
For car rental: If you like hiking, you can drive to the entrance of Tierra del Fuego and choose to take the small train inside (tickets need to be booked in advance on the official website).

If you don’t like hiking, you can also drive in, just covering the highlights: Puerto Arias—ALAKUSH (4.4 km, no difficulty, takes about two hours to walk).
🍽️
1️⃣ Highly recommend Bamboo, a self-service restaurant run by an elderly couple from Dalian. It’s the only self-service and Chinese restaurant in town, and it’s very popular.

After being away for two months, I finally got to taste the flavors of home 😭. They offer unlimited roasted lamb, sausages, canned yellow peaches, and ice cream, and you can eat until you can’t move. They also serve king crab (100-150 USD) à la carte. Open at 12:00 PM and 7:30 PM.
2️⃣ El Viejo Marino (Old Captain)
They also serve king crab, but at a more affordable price, a large one for 100 USD.

You can also try snow crab for 25 USD, but the texture and quality are not as good as the king crab. (I went in early April, and they still had king crab.)
