Best Ushuaia Hostel Recommendations: Affordable and Super Convenient Location!
I highly recommend staying in the area highlighted in Figure 1, which is right in the heart of the city. There are three hotels available for booking on Booking.com, and among them, I strongly suggest Hotel Antártida Argentina.

💖Here’s why: (Refer to Figure 2)
1. It’s just a stone’s throw from a supermarket—only one block up, a mere 2-minute walk.
2. A taxi stand is conveniently located just one block down, on the bustling main street, San Martin.
3. Right next to the hotel, you’ll find Jupiter Casa de Cambio, the only currency exchange place in Ushuaia that operates 24/7.

4. The pier, travel agencies, tourist center, and bus terminal are all within a 10-minute stroll.
5. Just two blocks down, you’ll find El Viejo Marino, a fantastic spot for king crab. With El Viejo Marino on your right and the museum on your left, you can easily check daily if they have king crab and avoid long queues by going early.

6. The top-rated restaurant on TripAdvisor is also nearby, where you can savor delicious silver cod.
7. In terms of location, it’s surprisingly affordable (check the prices on Booking.com).

The pros and cons of this hotel are quite clear. Initially, I didn’t stay here, but after discovering its excellent location and budget-friendly rates, I decided to move in.

💖Pros:
– The location is unbeatable, making it easy to get anywhere.
– The price is very reasonable (the cost of Tierra del Fuego hotel in the same area is about 4-5 times higher; hostels are cheaper but offer mixed dorms).
💖Cons:
– On Booking.com, while the location scores high, other ratings are lower, citing old room facilities, outdated supplies, and the absence of an elevator.
💖Coping strategies:
1. My mom, who is a cleanliness enthusiast, always brings her own disposable bed sheets, pillowcases, toilet seat covers, towels, and shampoo, and uses her own cup. This makes the older supplies a non-issue for us.
2. For “we have suitcases, but there’s no elevator,” we asked the front desk to assist with our luggage (we stayed on the 2nd floor).
3. Breakfast includes coffee, milk, croissants, toast, jam, and salty cheese. To add variety, I went to the supermarket the night before to buy some fruits and sausages (the cherries in the supermarket are both cheap and delicious! The coffee and milk at the hotel are quite good, with the milk being the same as what is sold in the supermarket).
(There are more coping strategies, but due to character limits, I’ll share them in the comments!)
🥹While the hotel is a bit dated, it maintains a clean and cozy atmosphere. One review mentioned that the decor has remained the same for over a decade, so it’s best to manage your expectations regarding the living environment.
💖💖This hotel is ideal for budget-conscious travelers who prioritize convenience and don’t have high demands for their living conditions.
