Day 4 of the Antarctic trip, November 13th, early morning in Ushuaia
Nestled in the Channel Hotel in Ushuaia, I drew back the curtains to greet the morning. To my right, a breathtaking panorama unfolded: snow-capped mountains and charming wooden houses. As I reached for my phone, a seabird gracefully glided past the window, adding a touch of serendipity to the scene.

Turning to the left, I saw sailboats ⛵ dotting the tranquil waters, with more majestic mountains stretching into the horizon. Ushuaia, the most remote city in the southernmost part of the world, has not been forgotten by nature; it is blessed with some of the most stunning landscapes. After a hearty breakfast, I set out for a leisurely walk by the water.

Ushuaia, situated at 57 degrees 47 minutes south latitude and 68 degrees 20 minutes west longitude, is a small city at the end of the world. In the movie “Happy Together,” there is a poignant line: “Speak out the unhappy things and leave them at the end of the world.” This adds a poetic touch to this remote city.

Many visitors purchase boat tickets at the quaint light green house, embarking on a cruise through the Beagle Channel. A well-behaved big black dog sat patiently, waiting for its owner. Leaning against the railing by the shore, I too wanted to speak out any unhappiness and leave it behind, but I couldn’t think of anything.

So, I simply took a deep breath of the crisp, fresh air. The tourists strolling along the waterfront all seemed content and happy, perhaps they had already let go of their burdens.

Happiness and unhappiness are not absolute. Take, for example, the brother in our group whose luggage was lost by the airline. He only had his camera bag with him, yet he never got angry or complained. When we flew from Buenos Aires to Ushuaia, we joked that he was the most relaxed without any luggage.

But when we gathered, he pulled out a suitcase, and everyone was surprised and asked if his luggage had been found. With a mock frown, he said, “Don’t ask.” It turned out he was helping the tour leader Yangyang carry the suitcase. We laughed, saying Yangyang was so considerate, helping the brother regain the feeling of having luggage, and he wasn’t upset.

The airline compensated about $300 for the lost luggage. Later, the travel agency rented him outdoor cold-weather clothing for $140, and he still had $160 to spend on travel necessities. What could he buy with that money? During our chat, the brother only regretted putting his camera charger and spare memory card in the checked luggage, but he remained calm.

He had every reason to be unhappy, but instead, he took his camera to capture the vibrant jacaranda flowers, the historic architecture of Buenos Aires, and the breathtaking beauty…

On this journey, besides savoring the beautiful scenery, I also discovered the secret to staying happy…
I am in the small city of Ushuaia, at the end of the world, sending you a warm good morning!
