The flight from Buenos Aires to Ushuaia, a journey of about three and a half hours, was just the beginning of an adventure I had meticulously planned.

[One] The first day’s itinerary was a thrilling helicopter ride followed by a city tour. I opted for a 15-minute aerial tour that offered breathtaking views of the city and the surrounding mountains. Although it came with a hefty price tag, the experience was absolutely worth every penny. The stark black and white landscape of Ushuaia in deep winter, enveloped in a serene and chilling silence, was truly a sight to behold.

After the exhilarating flight, I strolled down the main street, where every casual snapshot turned out to be a masterpiece. Since the Old Captain was closed on Saturday night and Sunday, I decided to try the cod at Paso Garibaldi Resto. The fish was exquisite, and the crab meat salad was equally delightful. The total cost for these two dishes was 75,000 pesos, a small price to pay for such a memorable meal.

[Two] The second day began with a morning visit to Tierra del Fuego National Park, followed by a ride on the historic small train. In the afternoon, we toured the three islands of the Beagle Channel, skipping Penguin Island, which is closed during the winter months.

While the national park was somewhat underwhelming, the natural beauty and the guide’s efforts to find the best photo spots made the visit worthwhile. The entrance fee was 30,000 pesos, excluding the small train ride. I must admit, I dozed off on the train, but the recorded historical commentary about the deforestation and the prisoners who built the park (available in Chinese) was quite informative.

For the Beagle Channel, bundling up is a must, as the wind can be fierce, but the scenery is nothing short of spectacular. We were fortunate enough to spot sea lions, seagulls, and even a majestic whale 🐳, making the trip all the more unforgettable.

The lighthouse at the end of the world, true to its name, exudes a profound sense of solitude. Every photograph captures this unique atmosphere, making it a true haven for those who seek peace and quiet.
