Ushuaia Complete Guide: Best Places to Eat, Drink, Shop, and Stay at the End of the World
From the moment I embarked on a working holiday in Australia, I was destined to fall head over heels for the Southern Hemisphere. Thanks to an unforgettable trip to Antarctica, I found myself once again in the warm embrace of this enchanting part of the world!

First, I flew to Ushuaia, Argentina, and spent two days there. What can I say? The town may be small, but it’s packed with charm and character. Exploring every nook and cranny is a must, driven by the “since I’m already here” mentality.

🦀 Eat
When in Ushuaia, indulging in king crab is a must.
I highly recommend 📍El Viejo Marino, which offers excellent value for money, though they don’t serve crabs every day. We had to visit three times before we finally got to savor it. At 90,000 pesos (as of February 6, 2024), it’s indeed a steal.

📍Augusto has a delightful ambiance, and their black cod is a culinary delight.
The Wayfinder gift package includes a dining voucher for 📍Maria Lola Resto, which boasts a breathtaking view, even if the food is just okay.
📍Ramos Generales El Almacen is a century-old dessert shop with a charming, retro decor.

It’s definitely worth a visit if you have some spare time.

👜 Shop
In Argentina, there are two items that are absolutely worth buying: postcards from Antarctica (which are quite pricey on the ship) and alpaca fur slippers, which cost only about 300 RMB and are incredibly comfortable.

🏡 Stay
I booked an apartment on Booking.com, 📍Walanika Apartamentos, for over 700 RMB per night. Although it’s not in the heart of the town, the scenery is breathtaking, and getting around with Uber is a breeze.

🏕️ Play
Ushuaia is home to several “End of the World” markers, perfect for a quick photo op near the cruise dock.
Instead of heading to the popular Emerald Lagoon or Tierra del Fuego National Park, I opted for a less-traveled hiking route, 📍Estancia Tunel. This easy, 3-hour round trip hike offered stunning views. I even captured a couple with their dog, creating a picture-perfect moment that felt almost like a slice of idyllic life.

🧣 Outfit
For long trips, I prioritize clothes that are both functional and stylish.
Casual: An all-white off-shoulder sweater paired with wide-leg pants.
This blue and white color scheme is perfect for strolling around the city and lounging indoors on the ship.
Outdoor: For my Antarctic landings, I mostly wore the jacket provided by the cruise company.
Additionally, I brought along a set of X-BIONIC 3L hardshell jacket and pants made of Gore-Tex Pro fabric, ideal for outdoor adventures and capable of withstanding the harsh Antarctic winds and snow. I absolutely adore the smoky blue color.
I’ve always wanted to visit Ushuaia! The guide is super helpful, especially the restaurant recommendations—those Patagonian lamb dishes sound amazing. Have you explored any hidden hiking trails nearby? I’d love to know more about that.
Thank you so much for your kind words! Yes, there are plenty of hidden hiking trails around Ushuaia, like the Martial Glacier Trail—it’s less crowded and offers stunning views. If you’re into adventure, also check out the Laguna Esmeralda trail for a hidden gem. Happy exploring!
