In April, I arrived in Bariloche, a charming town nestled in the Andes Mountains of western Argentina, surrounded by lakes, forests, and snow-capped mountains, boasting numerous scenic beauties.

However, to me, it is an indisputable “idle” town. The people here are really idle; walking on the street for half an hour, I could encounter several batches of people who would initiate conversations with me [Laughing]. The content of the chats was nothing but classic small talk like where you come from and what you’re doing here.

If you ask me what I do and why I’m here, I don’t know how to answer. I do nothing, I am nothing, just a tiny passerby who happens to be here [Smirking].

Life in Bariloche is very chill, and so is the weather. From the scorching summer of Buenos Aires to the crisp autumn of Bariloche, the sudden drop in temperature caught me off guard. I might have been the only one climbing and hiking in short sleeves and breathable single-layer clothing.

Life here is so leisurely that after wandering around for half an hour, I still didn’t know where I was going. The sound of violins 🎻 and saxophones 🎷 suddenly intruded into my ears. I’m not someone who has a great sense or knowledge of music, but I was also attracted by the beautiful melody, unreasonably touched, and stopped in my tracks. I shivered in the cold wind, while the performers were sweating profusely. We stood there until it got dark.

The overcast sky in Bariloche gave me a reason to step into a cafe, freezing with a runny nose, yet ordering an iced coffee, sitting down by the seaside, contemplating my mediocre yet extraordinary life [Laughing].

After being outdoors in the cold wind all day, I found a tavern to sit in the evening. After a beer, amidst the bustling crowd, I couldn’t even figure out myself, indulging in melancholy, expressing those uncertain emotions.

Bariloche, the best place in Argentina to while away the hours, non-idlers please stay away [Side-eye].

[Red Book] The first nine pictures are of the town, and the next nine are of the hiking scenery. For hiking, you can refer to barilochetrekking, which has detailed information on all the routes. I hope that one day, fellow “idlers” will come to Bariloche, slowly savor the leisurely time, and indulge in wasting your life [Smirking][Laughing].
