Many visitors to Switzerland and the Bernese Oberland often only notice the popular destinations like Interlaken, Grindelwald, and the Jungfrau. Most travelers pass through Spiez by train—it’s a necessary stop on the way to Zermatt, Interlaken, and the French-speaking region, nestled at the foot of Niesenhorn Mountain.

Those who pause in Spiez might stroll to the lakeside castle, enjoy a beer, snap a photo, and then move on. However, if you take the time to linger, you can board a boat across the lake to the charming town of Sigriswil. From there, looking back, you’ll discover a breathtaking symphony of mountains, lakes, and people that will leave you in awe.

This year, I returned to the Bernese Oberland with @按快门的Tony🌍 to revisit this “old friend.” It was exactly one year ago today when I took my first picture here. To capture that perfect shot, I climbed up to a suspension bridge in the town, missed the last bus, and found myself stranded alone on a hillside blanketed with spring flowers.

As the sky darkened and anxiety began to set in, a kind Swiss man out for a walk, driving his blue convertible Mazda, offered me a ride, ensuring I caught the last bus back to Zurich.
In that moment, I realized that while the Swiss may seem a bit reserved in everyday life, their kindness shines through in times of need.
The true essence of travel, perhaps, lies in these unexpected moments and the warmth of human connection.

Transport: Take bus 24 or 25 from Thun Bahnhof station, or bus 21 from Interlaken. Highly recommended to take a boat from Spiez Schiffstation to Gunten! There is also a stunning viewpoint near the lake, Aussichtpunkt Panoramaweg (see Image 3️⃣)
