The next morning, we arrived in the bustling capital of South Gobi, Dalanzadgad. Our first stop was the local dinosaur museum, a charming and intimate space that, while smaller than its counterpart in Zigong, still managed to captivate us with its unique exhibits. One of the highlights was a traditional game where locals throw dice made from bones to predict fortunes.
Intrigued, I gave it a try, and my fortune read: “You will arrive soon, but you won’t meet the expected person.” Surprisingly, it turned out to be quite accurate.
In the afternoon, we ventured to Bayanzag, a breathtaking landscape where the cliffs are a striking tapestry of red and orange sandstones, interspersed with copper-green stones. This area is renowned for its rich trove of dinosaur fossils, making it a haven for paleontologists. The Flaming Cliffs, a particularly stunning feature, were famously discovered by explorer Roy Chapman Andrews during his expedition to Mongolia in 1922.
