Recently, I had the incredible opportunity to explore the majestic Big Island of Chiloé in Chile, and I was eager to share the fascinating Mapuche indigenous culture with my Chinese audience. The Mapuche heritage is deeply rooted in history, brimming with a wealth of knowledge, and forms a vital cornerstone of Chilean society. During my visit, I was captivated by the exquisite woolen handicrafts, each piece telling a story of tradition and skill.
One of the most memorable experiences was witnessing the preparation of “curanto,” a traditional underground cooking method that is truly a feast for the senses. This culinary art involves heating ingredients in a pit using hot stones, all carefully covered with layers of pangue and tepa leaves.
