🌟Which countries did you visit during this 100-day trip to Latin America?

🌟Did you go alone?
We were two girls backpacking, and we were together most of the time.

🌟Is it safe for a solo traveler in Latin America?
From the few countries I visited, I think traveling alone is not a big problem.

🌟What size backpack did you bring?

66L, because I needed to pack clothes for all four seasons, and I had quite a lot of toiletries, so it just fit. A backpack of this size needs to be checked in.

🌟Is traveling in Latin America expensive?
It depends on the place. Chile, Mexico, and Brazil are more expensive, with prices similar to developed countries, while Cuba and Bolivia have lower prices.

🌟How did you book accommodations?
I mostly booked homestays, with a few hostels and hotels. The average cost was 150-200 yuan per night.

🌟How much did the entire trip cost?
About 70,000 HKD. I did everything I wanted to do, mainly the tours in Torres del Paine and some other tours were more expensive.

🌟Can you travel in Latin America without knowing Spanish?
English is not widely spoken in some places, so knowing Spanish is best. Before I left, I only learned the pinyin pronunciation and some basic vocabulary. If I couldn’t communicate, I used my phone’s translation app. Learning while traveling can be very fast.

🌟How to choose which countries to visit?
For those who like culture, go to Mexico, Cuba, Peru, Colombia; for scenery, go to Chile, Argentina, Bolivia; for beach vacations, choose Mexico, Panama; for wildlife, choose the Galapagos or the rainforest.

🌟What is the best month to go:
Latin America is vast, and each country has different rainy and dry seasons.

For example, November to March is suitable for Argentina and Chile, but it’s the rainy season in Peru, so we didn’t go there this time. Research the weather before you leave.

🌟Which country did you like the most?
I personally love natural scenery, so first is Chile. Whether it’s the hiking in Torres del Paine in the south, the volcanic lake area in the center, or the desert in the north, they all made me linger.

🌟How long should you spend in each country?
If you have enough time, I suggest spending about half a month in Chile and Argentina, and about two weeks in Mexico, Cuba, Bolivia, and Brazil.

🌟Which cities are more dangerous?
Generally, large cities require extra attention to property safety, such as São Paulo, Buenos Aires, Santiago, and Mexico City.

🌟Can you use electronic payments?
Most of the time, cash is still used. It’s recommended to bring US dollars to exchange in Argentina and Cuba.

In other destinations, we opted to withdraw cash from local banks or relied on our credit cards, preferring the security and convenience over carrying large amounts of cash.
