-Day Argentina Self-Driving Tour: 12,350 KM Itinerary & Tips
Starting from the vibrant capital, Buenos Aires, we embarked on an epic journey, traveling clockwise to make a full circle around the stunning landscapes of Argentina.
Our first leg took us from north to south along the breathtaking Atlantic coast. We traversed more than 3,000 kilometers on Route 3, all the way to the end of the continental road at Rio Gallegos, where the vast ocean meets the rugged terrain.
From there, we turned onto the legendary Route 40, starting at the 0-kilometer mark. We headed south to west, and then from south to north, covering over 4,000 kilometers until we reached the end of Route 40 in Jujuy. The diverse scenery, from arid deserts to lush forests, was a feast for the eyes.
In the northern part of our journey, we ventured from west to east, culminating in the awe-inspiring Iguazu Falls. The thundering waterfalls and lush greenery provided a perfect finale before we made our way back to the bustling capital. Throughout this incredible adventure, we were accompanied by a trusty manual transmission car 🚗.

Toll fees are only required in the area near the capital, Buenos Aires. These are charged per segment or instance, with each costing about RMB 2.2-3.6. It’s worth noting that there are no proper highways in this region.

Public parking is incredibly affordable, costing about ARS 400/hour (RMB 2.9/hour). Charges apply from 9 AM to 9 PM, with no cost for overnight parking.

b. APP – pay before parking
Generally, the spots with numbers on the ground are electronic payment spots via the APP.
Estacionamiento means parking. For the manual method, you only pay when the attendant sees you, while for the APP, you must buy the time in advance before parking.
The city also offers many private indoor parking lots, which typically have double the hourly rates and are mostly manned. Staff often take a break at noon, and each private parking lot has different operating hours. Be sure to check the details clearly before parking.
