Discover Asado: The Unique Argentine Countryside Barbecue Experience

Nestled in the heart of Buenos Aires province, Restaurant Fronteras is a charming retreat just an hour and a half’s drive from the bustling city. As you arrive, the first thing that strikes you is the vast, sparsely populated landscape, with acres of land dedicated to this rustic barbecue haven. From the sprawling front yard to the spacious central hall and the expansive backyard, the restaurant exudes a sense of grandeur and authenticity.

The small towns of Argentina are known for their unique charm and laid-back atmosphere, and Tomas Jofre is no exception. This quaint town once boasted a train station, but after a bridge collapse, the station was repurposed into a picturesque check-in spot. Nearby, a grassy field serves as a landing area for helicopters, adding a touch of adventure to the locale.

On weekends, the town comes alive with nearly 30 bustling restaurants, all fully booked, and cars parked as far as the eye can see. The farm-style dining experience here is a true delight, offering a buffet-style meal with a per-person charge that includes a variety of appetizers, pasta, unlimited grilled meats, desserts, and drinks.

At 18,000 pesos per person, it’s a fantastic value, especially considering the distance and the quality of the experience.

The locals here are warm and genuine, and perhaps because there are fewer Chinese visitors, the restaurant staff are exceptionally welcoming. They greet you with enthusiastic “Holas” and eagerly pose for photos, making you feel right at home. Initially, I felt a bit hesitant about photographing the grilling process, but they warmly invited me in, making it a memorable part of the visit.

The weather was perfect, with clear, sunny skies, and sitting outdoors was a sheer delight. Families and their furry companions filled the tables, a testament to the restaurant’s popularity among the local community.
