Ushuaia, the southernmost city in Argentina and the world, is a true gem at the end of the Earth!

From Buenos Aires’s EZE airport, a 3.5-hour flight with Flybondi will take you to this enchanting destination. If you manage to snag a window seat on the right side of the plane, you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of snow-capped mountains, a sight that will leave you in awe. Ushuaia Airport is quaint and compact, making it easy to hop into an Uber and head straight to the city.

While Ushuaia is a popular departure point for Antarctic expeditions, the city and its surroundings offer a plethora of attractions:
1️⃣ Emerald Lake: Embark on a 3-hour round trip hike to this stunning lake, or extend your adventure by visiting the nearby glacier, which adds another 4 hours to your journey.

You can explore independently by purchasing a round-trip transfer service. Adjacent to Emerald Lake is Turquesa, another picturesque lake, but with a more challenging trail and equally mesmerizing scenery.
2️⃣ Tierra del Fuego National Park + the End of the World Train: The park requires a separate ticket, available online.

Begin your visit with a ride on the famous End of the World Train, where a photo session awaits before boarding. The train makes a brief stop, allowing you to step off and admire a charming waterfall. Here, staff will offer to sell you the photos taken earlier, providing both on-site printed and framed copies, as well as digital versions via WhatsApp.

Upon reaching the final station, you can start exploring the wonders of Tierra del Fuego Park, including the now-closed southernmost post office and the scenic Bahia Lapataia. If you prefer to go solo, the park offers several hiking trails that you can enjoy at your own pace.
3️⃣ Boat Tour to Lighthouses and Penguins: Typically departing at 3 PM, this 5-hour boat tour is a must-see.

A knowledgeable guide will provide fascinating insights as you sail through the waters. First, you’ll visit the island of blue-eyed cormorants, then marvel at the iconic Les Eclaireurs lighthouse, and finally, get up close to the penguin colony on Martillo Island. If you’re lucky, you might even spot some fin whales along the way.

While the boat’s interior is cozy, the deck can be chilly, so it’s wise to dress in layers and bring a hat. Onboard photographers are available to capture your memories, though their services come at a premium. The photos, however, are beautifully printed and framed, and you’ll also receive electronic versions, complete with information about Ushuaia’s flora and fauna, making it a worthwhile investment.

4️⃣ The Pier and Ushuaia Sign: These iconic spots are particularly photogenic on a clear, sunny day.
5️⃣ San Martin Street: This bustling commercial street is a shopper’s paradise, with the added charm of penguin graffiti near Cafe Xpresso.
6️⃣ Maritime Museum: Housed in the former Ushuaia prison, this museum offers a unique historical experience.

The admission fee, though steep, includes a Spanish-speaking guide and allows re-entry within 48 hours, providing a deep dive into the region’s maritime history.
7️⃣ Martial Glacier: Located just a short distance from the city, consider taking a taxi to the base of the mountain and then embarking on a scenic hike up to the glacier.

Many visitors flock to this area to savor the delectable king crab (Centolla). Here are the restaurants I had the pleasure of dining at:
🤍 Isabel: This charming spot offers a variety of dishes, many of which are designed for two. If you opt for a single portion, it’s only about 30% cheaper. One standout is their baked rice-like dish with king crab, though it comes with a premium price tag.

💙💙 Old Captain: A buzzing, internet-famous restaurant that often has a line out the door. The king crab meat here is not only delicious but also offers great value for money.
💙 Volver: Highly recommended by local guides, Volver boasts an enchanting atmosphere and serves up some of the most mouthwatering dishes in the area.
