✈️ Origin:
After stepping off the plane in Ushuaia, our initial plan was to head straight to Buenos Aires. But over the weekend, a spontaneous idea sparked in our minds—why not explore the breathtaking landscapes of Patagonia in South America? And just like that, we were set on an adventure!

✅ Decision:
Patagonia, a vast and stunning region spanning the southern parts of Argentina and Chile, offers a myriad of natural wonders. In Argentina, the journey often begins in the charming town of El Chalten, while on the Chilean side, the iconic Torres del Paine National Park beckons. We opted for Torres del Paine for several compelling reasons:

1. The captivating images of Patagonia I had seen, which inspired this trip, all seemed to originate from Torres del Paine (Image 1️⃣). The majestic landscapes were simply too beautiful to resist.
2. Torres del Paine is renowned for its world-class hiking trails, including the relatively easy W circuit (Image 3️⃣ blue) and the more challenging O circuit (Image 3️⃣ blue + red) for seasoned hikers.

3. While researching, I found that the routes in Argentina were either short day trips or demanding treks for experienced mountaineers, which didn’t quite fit our plans.
4. Given the long 40-hour flight ✈️ to South America, we wanted to make the most of our trip by visiting another country. With a US visa, entry into Chile is straightforward, and there’s a new policy allowing visa holders to visit both Chile and Argentina, making it a perfect opportunity.

5. The peak tourist season in Patagonia, from November to February, brings better weather and more visitors. This means accommodations need to be booked well in advance. Indeed, our final itinerary required numerous adjustments, so early booking is highly recommended.

📷 Rough Itinerary:
On December 28, we’ll catch one of the multiple daily direct flights from Ushuaia to El Calafate (Image 4️⃣).

From El Calafate, we’ll board a bus to cross the border into Torres del Paine National Park. Although renting a car is an option, it’s not necessary unless you’re in a rush. During the peak season, there are typically two buses per day to the park. Google Maps estimates a 3-hour journey, but some reports suggest it can take up to 7 hours, which is a bit perplexing. Nonetheless, the park entrance is close to the Chile/Argentina border, and the scenic route promises to be a visual feast.

Given the time and equipment constraints, especially after our Antarctic cruise, we decided to opt for the W circuit, which allows for a mix of hotel stays, pre-set campsites, or hostels. On the 28th, we’ll check into the Central at the park entrance.

Starting December 29, we’ll embark on our trek from east to west ⬅️, passing by the awe-inspiring Three Towers (Image 5️⃣), the picturesque British Camp (Image 6️⃣), and a series of other stunning spots along the way. I’m eagerly looking forward to capturing countless photos! We’ll ring in the New Year at Paine Grande, where, despite the crowds, we managed to secure a dorm room for 6-8 people, promising a lively and memorable celebration.
