I went to Argentina in April 2023. The black market exchange rate was around 1:390, while the official rate was about 1:220. Different banks had different exchange rates for card transactions; at the time, Chase used the black market rate, and Amex used the official rate. Today, I was shocked to see that the exchange rate has already reached 1:1000.

🔸Day 1: Buenos Aires, stayed at Palacio Duhao-Park Hyatt. I have a company code; let me know if you need it. I didn’t check, but I got a rate of $120/day, which made me very happy. Booked an English tour of the Teatro Colón, then walked around La Boca.

🔸Day 2: Buenos Aires, ran in Tres de Febrero Park in the morning, visited Jardin Japones, and had breakfast at Cafe Tortoni, which was really crowded, mainly for the ambiance. Had dinner at Don Julio, arrived 30 minutes early, and were among the first to enter. Watched a tango show in the evening.

🔸Day 3: Buenos Aires, visited a popular bookstore, shopped (all at the black market exchange rate), and had a great time. Had dinner at La Cabrera, which I really liked. There was a happy hour with almost half-price discounts.

🔸Day 4: Early flight to Iguazu, visited the Argentine side of the falls. Devil’s Throat, after a year of repairs, was finally open, and it was very impressive. Personally, I preferred the Argentine side, maybe because it was the first day.

🔸Day 5: Visited the Brazilian side of the falls, taken there and back by a taxi driver (~$40, very cheap). Smooth entry, no visa required for Chinese passport. Found the driver on Xiaohongshu. Checked in at the location from “Happy Together” (some people said at the end of the year that the policy changed and it was not possible to enter, so be cautious when planning your trip).

🔸Day 7: Early flight to FTE, picked up a car 🚗, drove to El Chalten.

🔸Day 8: El Calafate, hiked the three lakes trail for 7.5 hours, 15 miles, saw the Fitz Roy mountain, autumn-colored lakes, glaciers, and rainbows. Having been to the W Trail before, it was both surprising and nostalgic. Very beautiful hiker town, drank IPAs during happy hour, large beers for less than $2, absolutely amazing.

🔸Day 9: Moreno Glacier, booked the mini-trek with Hielo&Aventura. As one of the few active glaciers, the trek was still great, even though it was very crowded. I had also considered the Big Ice (one is more expensive, and we had just hiked 15 miles, so we decided on the mini-trek).

🔸Day 10: Returned home.
