On December 23rd last year, I headed to the Argentine embassy for a visa interview, armed with my US, Canadian, and multiple Schengen visas. I was confident that the embassy would grant me a ten-year visa. Despite having a well-planned itinerary, complete documents, and answering the visa officer’s questions fluently, they only issued me a three-month valid visa, which expires on March 23rd this year.

Unfortunately, we can only enter Argentina in mid-April, making this visa essentially useless 😭. Thankfully, among the three of us, I was the first to go for the interview, while the other two had appointments in January, which we promptly canceled. We rescheduled our interviews together for early February.

My notarized documents and visa application forms were taken away, and all itineraries and bookings have since expired, so everything needs to be redone. I plan to reapply for the visa after the Spring Festival. For the second application, I added trips to Chile and the United States, hoping for a smoother process. After the Argentine 🇦🇷 visa interview, I also scheduled an appointment to submit documents for a Brazilian visa. Each step is intricately linked, and there must be no room for error.

Drawing from the experience of the Argentine 🇦🇷 visa interview, the visa officer asked very detailed questions based on the submitted itinerary. Since I crafted the itinerary, and the companions’ interviews are conducted back-to-back, each person will face the visa officer individually. Therefore, my companions also need to quickly understand the itinerary. I created this detailed itinerary map 🗺️, and I spent over a thousand yuan on visa fees to learn this valuable lesson.

Tips:
1️⃣ The visa officer requires that domestic flights within Argentina also need to be booked; it’s unclear if bus tickets 🚌 will be required for entry, so I arranged the itinerary to fly from Santiago to Buenos Aires, travel around Argentina, and then fly to New York.
2️⃣ For the itinerary I made, I can clearly state the place names, but my companions should at least know the main activities and sights.

They must not fabricate their own stories. I saw a girl get rejected because her answers did not match the itinerary.
