Ultimate Ushuaia Trekking Guide: Explore Tierra del Fuego National Park Trails

When it comes to Tierra del Fuego, what most people recognize is the Tierra del Fuego Train🚂🚂. Back then, the train carried prisoners through picturesque landscapes to the end of the world, passing through forests, foothills, rivers, and waterfalls, finally reaching their destination.

Tierra del Fuego National Park is a coastal national park in Argentina.

Here, there are no surging waves or bone-chilling, swirling winds. In this imagined lonely, remote, and harsh end of the world, it surprisingly has sunny and pleasant weather, lush with greenery🌳🌳. Even the air is soaked in warmth and tranquility.

While researching the travel routes for Tierra del Fuego, I found that the Central Sector of Tierra del Fuego has 4 official hiking trails. Most Chinese travel guides only introduce the post office and the train ride.

After reading some English travel guides, we chose the official Trail No.2, the Coastal Trail, a route that goes along the sea, with low difficulty and nice scenery [Praise R][Praise R].

The entire Coastal Trail is about 9km long. The entrance is right next to the post office. If you walk slowly, it will take about 4-5 hours.

Along the way, you will pass the Alakush Visitor Center, which has rest areas and a restaurant.

You can also choose to end your hike here and return, but we decided to continue to Arias Port, so it took a bit longer. There was a section in the middle where we were unsure if we were on the right path [Laughing Cry R][Laughing Cry R].

We had to walk on the road, and every time a car passed, we had to inhale dust…

After walking a stretch of the road, we returned to the fresh-air trail, and finally arrived at Bahia Lapataia, which also marks the end of Route 3, Fin de la Ruta Nac. Nº3. The return trip also starts from here, boarding the bus back to the city.

📍How to get to Tierra del Fuego from Ushuaia:
From the bus terminal in the city (located opposite the century-old café Ramos Generales, it’s a small black house, see p11), buy a round-trip bus ticket🚌🚌.

Board the shuttle bus to Tierra del Fuego, get off at the park entrance to purchase tickets, then board again to head to the train or the post office.
