Discover the $1 Avatar-like Tropical Rainforest Hiking Adventure in Australia
From the vibrant city of Cairns, hop on bus 131🚌 for an enchanting journey to a lush tropical rainforest that feels like stepping into Pandora. With a one-way fare of just 50 cents and a round trip for only $1‼️, it’s an affordable adventure you won’t want to miss.

After a thorough on-site exploration, I’ve put together the most comprehensive hiking guide for you. Make sure to ❤️ it ❗️

Use Google Maps to navigate to the Cairns Botanic Gardens. Once you step off the bus, you’ll have three fantastic hiking options to choose from. Select one or more routes based on your preferences and fitness level:

[Option 1] Botanic Garden Hike
The entrance is right across from the bus stop, as shown in picture 4. Inside, you’ll find a wealth of plant information, making it a delightful and educational stroll. This leisurely hike takes about an hour to complete.

[Option 2] Lake Loop Hike
As soon as you disembark, look for the “rainforest boardwalk” entrance (picture 8). The trail is easy and inviting, leading you to the picturesque Friendship Grove, perfect for a rest and some photo ops. The round trip takes approximately an hour and a half.

[Option 3] Mountain Hiking
Start at the visitor center of the botanic garden, where you can choose from four different trails (picture 14). Each trail is marked with a different color, indicating varying lengths and difficulties. Whether you opt for a one-hour loop or a challenging six-hour trek, the views are breathtaking.

‼️For those eager to reach the summit and enjoy panoramic vistas, it’s best to start early. The botanic garden has a charming restaurant where you can fuel up with a delicious brunch. Keep in mind that water refill points are limited along the way, and during the rainy season, the humidity and heat can be intense, with plenty of mosquitoes. I even squashed two blood-filled mosquitoes by hand🦟…

[R] Don’t forget to pack sunscreen, rain gear, and insect repellent. Bring plenty of water to stay hydrated and avoid heatstroke.
