Secret one: Believe it or not, these statues are actually “unfinished”!
At the Rano Raraku volcano, I discovered over 300 unfinished statues lying silently on the hillside, each one whispering tales from a thousand years ago.
Secret two: These statues can “walk”! According to local legend, ancient islanders used a mysterious power to “walk” these massive statues to the seaside.
Even today, scientists are still scratching their heads over this enigma.
Secret three: The statues “face the sea, back to the volcano”! At Ahu Tongariki, I was mesmerized by 15 Moai statues standing in perfect alignment by the ocean, with their backs to the Rano Raraku volcano. It’s as if they’re eternal guardians of this sacred land.
