Visited Neruda’s residence, a charming abode nestled on the hillside with a breathtaking view of the sea. The house is a treasure trove of artworks from around the world, each piece telling a story 🖼️. I can only imagine how invigorating it would be to live here, far from the mundane routines of Toronto 🥀. In fact, Neruda was so inspired by this place that he penned an ode to Valparaiso (Oda a Valparaiso) in its honor.

Transportation🚗
From Santiago’s Alameda/Pajaritos bus station, buses to Vina del Mar and Valparaiso depart every half hour. It’s convenient to buy tickets in advance. I opted for a Pullman bus (a 2-hour journey), which offered fully reclining seats, making the ride quite comfortable.

Accommodation🏨
There’s a wide range of accommodation options, from seaside chain hotels to cozy homestays. Mornings here are delightful; you can take a leisurely stroll, savor some fresh cherries, and enjoy a cup of coffee, immersing yourself in the same lifestyle that inspired Neruda.

Sightseeing✅
🌟If you prefer a relaxed pace, you can easily spend a full day in both Vina del Mar and Valparaiso. However, it’s best not to stay overnight in Valparaiso due to safety concerns. The sunset and night views in Vina del Mar are truly mesmerizing, and a walk along the coastal avenue, malecon, is a must for catching the perfect sunset.

🌟Cerro Concepcion is a vibrant neighborhood adorned with colorful graffiti. Local cafes, fruit shops, and restaurants creatively showcase their signature dishes and items through street art, adding a unique artistic flair to the area.

🌟La Sebastian, Neruda’s former residence, is a five-story villa filled with an impressive collection of international artworks. Exploring this space, you’ll understand the inspiration behind his romantic poetry; he truly cherished life (I especially love his poem “Ode to the Artichoke” Oda a la alcachofa). Don’t miss out on visiting Cafe del Poeta, a charming spot where Neruda used to spend his afternoons.
