One of the city’s highlights is a century-old elevator that carries you to the hilltop, offering a breathtaking panoramic view of the city and the distant azure sea. It’s like stepping into a vivid comic book, where every corner bursts with color 🎨. The relaxed pace of this coastal haven makes it perfect for leisurely strolls, with surprises waiting around every turn.
You can either hire a local guide or explore on your own. Some of the must-see attractions include:
❶ Ascensor Reina Victoria
A steep funicular built in 1902 🚠, recognized as one of the world’s 100 endangered historical and cultural treasures.
❷ Lutheran Church of the Holy Cross (1897)
Perched on a hilltop, this green church offers a stunning backdrop for photos, especially right after exiting the elevator. Adjacent to the church, you’ll find the Piano Staircase (unfortunately, it was being repainted during my visit, so I couldn’t capture its beauty 😟).

I stumbled upon this enchanting town while sipping coffee in Santiago. Instantly captivated, I rented a car and set off on an impromptu adventure (truly understanding the joy of spontaneous travel). The drive takes about 1.5 hours, and the town can be explored in around 3 hours. Valparaíso is far more picturesque than Santiago!! [PartyR]
