In H.P. Lovecraft’s chilling tale, “The Call of Cthulhu,” the slumbering city of the ancient and terrifying Cthulhu lies beneath the waves, just off the coast of Chiloé Island in Chile. Meanwhile, in the eerie narrative of “At the Mountains of Madness,” the enigmatic ancient beings and their monstrous creations, the shoggoths, are said to dwell within the icy expanse of Chilean Antarctic territory.

These mythical and horrifying entities, along with the colossal penguins and the dread Cthulhu, all call the diverse landscapes of Chile their home.

Interestingly, it’s been whimsically suggested that Cthulhu might have a particular fondness for cherries 🍒 and is a staunch admirer of Salvador Allende ✊.
