What is the most anticipated experience when visiting a coastal city? For many, it’s indulging in a sumptuous seafood meal. Here’s a delightful culinary journey through Viña del Mar:

1. Portofino
Renowned for its exquisite seafood and Latin-inspired dishes, Portofino stands out as one of the top dining spots in Viña del Mar. The restaurant opens at 1:00 PM, and we arrived early, eagerly waiting by the window for an hour to secure a table. The interior is elegantly designed, offering a panoramic view of the sea, which added to the ambiance.

However, the prices are on the higher side. We ordered two fish dishes and two bottles of mineral water, which set us back 356 RMB. Despite the cost, the small portions, particularly the two tiny southern potatoes, left us feeling a bit peckish 🙃…

2. La Pica de Gaviota
After our upscale dining experience, we were still craving more and decided to explore the vibrant seafood stalls along the seaside promenade in Viña del Mar. One of the friendly staff members recommended their abalone salad, featuring fresh shrimp and abalone. The dish was not only tender and packed with nutrients but also reasonably priced, leaving us thoroughly satisfied 😀.

3. Moneda de ORO
Following a visit to the botanical garden, we stumbled upon this charming restaurant, where the majority of diners were locals, giving it an authentic feel. To ensure a satisfying meal, I opted for the salmon set. The first bite revealed the natural, rich flavor of the fish, enhanced by a squeeze of lemon and a side of fresh vegetables, making it a refreshing and delightful choice.

My companion chose the “beef casserole,” which came with a generous piece of beef, corn, and potatoes. The aroma alone was mouthwatering, and while the beef was delicious, a bit more would have made it perfect 😃.
