After concluding our breathtaking journey through Torres del Paine, we arrived on the last day of 2024 in Valparaíso, the enchanting hometown of the legendary poet Pablo Neruda.

Just a one-hour drive from Santiago, this charming coastal city is nestled against the mountains, offering a vibrant tapestry of South American-style architecture and colorful street art that brings every corner to life. 🎨

Exploring Valparaíso is an adventure best enjoyed spontaneously. Start your journey from the hilltop, where you can take in a panoramic view of the entire city, then meander down through the intricate network of streets, immersing yourself in the rich local culture. Every turn reveals a new, Instagram-worthy moment, making it a photographer’s dream [selfie R].

While online reviews about the city’s safety are mixed, we took extra precautions and found our visit to be smooth and enjoyable. In contrast, the neighboring Viña del Mar presents a completely different atmosphere, with its modern high-rise buildings and bustling, commercialized beaches, making it a more conventional vacation spot.

However, it lacks the unique charm and character of Valparaíso. If time allows, spending the day in Valparaíso and then relaxing overnight in Viña del Mar offers the best of both worlds.
