Bromo Volcano Adventure: Exploring Java’s Natural Wonder in Rainy Season
We woke up at 10:30 PM, filled with excitement, and began packing our gear and applying our makeup. By midnight, we were ready to embark on our adventure, heading towards the volcano. The journey from our hotel to the base of the volcano took about two hours. Once there, we hopped into a rugged pickup truck that would take us to the viewing platform on the opposite side.

It was the rainy season, and the sky opened up with a heavy downpour. We sought refuge in a cozy coffee shop, waiting patiently for the rain to subside. Finally, around 4:30 AM, the rain eased, and we ventured out. Although we missed the sunrise, the full view of the majestic volcano more than made up for it, bringing smiles and a sneaky laugh to our faces.

After enjoying the view, we retraced our steps and took the pickup truck back to the foot of the volcano, ready to explore the Bromo crater.

Hiking through the vast plain of volcanic ash, the soft ground made the trek quite challenging.
Horse riding vs. Hiking:
– **Hiking:** About 40 minutes, perfect for those who love a good challenge.
– **Horse riding:** Approximately 10-15 minutes, costing around IDR 100,000 (prices are negotiable). With plenty of horses available, it’s a great option if you’re feeling tired. We opted for the horse ride, which added a unique and memorable twist to our journey.

**Detailed hiking guide:**
22:30 | Wake up and prepare
After rising in the middle of the night, pack your essentials, do your makeup, and get ready for the breathtaking volcano sunrise. The early morning temperature at Bromo can be chilly, ranging from 5-10°C, so layering is key. Wear warm, breathable clothing that you can easily remove as you start to warm up during the hike.

Gear recommendations:
– ✔ Warm jacket (fleece or down)
– ✔ Hat & gloves (essential for protection against the early morning wind)
– ✔ Comfortable hiking shoes (anti-slip and durable, ideal for the volcanic ash terrain)
– ✔ Mask/scarf/goggles (to shield yourself from volcanic ash)
– ✔ Flashlight/headlamp (the mountain path is pitch black in the early morning)
