Day 4: Must-Try Komodo Sunset Tour for Unforgettable Island Views 🌄

Komodo Island is a small yet enchanting destination. We checked into the Meruorah Komodo Labuan Bajo around noon, and then ventured out to the bustling streets in search of a sunset tour. Given the hotel’s convenient location near the port⚓️, we found ourselves surrounded by numerous travel agencies, each vying for our attention with offers of one-day tours and sunset excursions.

After some exploration, we settled on a charming wooden boat sunset tour for 500k per person. Initially, it was just the two of us, and I had a slight concern about safety, but our worries were soon alleviated when a friendly Chinese girl joined us, adding to our sense of security.

The tour included three captivating stops, and while the itinerary was similar to what you might find on Taobao, the price was nearly half, making it an excellent value for money!! We added the office’s WeChat, and they proved to be very reliable. We even booked their boat for our departure from the island, as the hotel’s speedboat🚤 was quite expensive at 1650k.

After some negotiation, we managed to secure a better deal at 1000k, though we felt we could have pushed for an even lower price! The third picture shows seasickness pills, which can be purchased at a local pharmacy for 14k for 8 tablets, and should be taken two hours before the boat trip.

We arrived at the port at 2:00 pm, eager to board our boat and set off on our adventure. Our first stop was Kelor Island, where we hiked and snorkeled🤿, as shown in the fourth and fifth pictures. The clear waters and vibrant marine life made for an unforgettable experience. Next, we headed to a dedicated snorkeling spot, where the underwater world was even more mesmerizing.

The highlight of the evening was the much-anticipated bat cave experience!! We waited until after the sunset🌄, with the sun fully setting, for the show to begin. We jokingly urged the bats🦇 to start working💼, and finally, around 6:30 pm, the bats began to emerge. Starting with a few dozen, the number quickly grew to hundreds and thousands, silhouetted against the twilight sky🌄.

It was a truly spectacular and breathtaking sight, lasting for nearly 20 minutes. As the boat slowly sailed away, the night sky darkened, revealing a canopy of stars✨ and a clear view of the Milky Way🌌, perfect for stargazing. We returned to the port around 7:30 pm, filled with wonder and awe.

This experience left me marveling at the wonders of nature and reaffirmed my belief in the profound meaning of travel, as it allows us to witness such incredible and unique sights!
