Discover Exceptional Original Fried Oxtail: A Must-Try in New-Style Indonesian Cuisine
Staying at the iconic and distinctive Hotel Majapahit in Surabaya is an experience like no other. The century-old building is not only a sight to behold, but the restaurant also offers a delightful culinary journey! Traditional recipes, infused with modern twists, have completely refreshed my appreciation of Indonesian cuisine [WowR].

– SOP BUNTUT GORENG
Award-winning oxtail 🏆
You can choose between the traditional stewing method or the innovative dry-frying technique.
(The waiter highly recommends their unique dry-frying method.
Unlike typical fried dishes, this oxtail is lightly fried to achieve tenderness and enhance its aroma, then coated with a rich, sweet soy sauce.

The oxtail meat is thick and succulent, and even the bony parts are slightly springy and chewy.
The accompanying green pepper sambal is a fantastic complement 👏🏻
The clear broth, made from beef bones, carrots, potatoes, tomatoes, scallions, and local spices like garlic, pepper, and nutmeg, is incredibly fresh, sweet, and refreshing.

(I suspect they use this same seasoning for their instant noodles; it’s that aromatic.

– BEBEK REMEG
Dirty duck, one of my favorite Indonesian dishes.
The duck skin is so crispy it crackles with every bite! It’s not greasy, and the fatty parts are slightly sticky and chewy. The spices seem to be marinated into every bit of the duck meat, and the aroma is intoxicating as soon as you cut into it.

The duck is very plump, far superior to the leaner ducks in Bali [CryR]. Indonesia has its own version of confit duck, which rivals the best of French cuisine!!! The spices are simply amazing!!!

– GADO – GADO SURABAYA
Indonesia’s unique peanut sauce salad.
Banana leaf-wrapped rice lontong, soft and fragrant.
I still can’t quite appreciate the thick, sweet peanut sauce 🙉, but it’s a must-try for those who love rich flavors.

– Melinjo chips
A popular Indonesian snack, these chips are crispy and slightly bitter, perfect when paired with a spicy sauce. I absolutely love them.

The classic and elegant ambiance, enhanced by small candles, creates a wonderful atmosphere.
Before the meal, you are treated to buttered rolls.
This is one of the more refined restaurants in Surabaya, where it feels like any Indonesian dish you order will be a delight.
