Discover God’s Emerald: Explore the World’s Largest Volcanic Lake Toba in Indonesia

Nestled in the northern part of Sumatra Island, on the Mada Plateau, Lake Toba is a stunning volcanic lake that holds the title of being both the largest freshwater lake in Indonesia and the largest volcanic lake in the world.

✈ How to get there?
[Option 1] Embark on a scenic 45-minute flight from Kuala Lumpur or Penang to Kualanamu Airport in Medan, where you can enjoy breathtaking views of the Malacca Strait. Upon arrival, hop on an airport bus or hire a car. A seven-seater vehicle with a Chinese-speaking driver costs RMB600 (365,000 IDR) per day, including toll fees of RMB90 (57,000 IDR) for a round trip, and ferry fees (the car needs to be on the ferry as well, approximately RMB230 (140,000 IDR).

The car comfortably seats four people, with the back row reserved for luggage. The journey to the Parapat dock at Lake Toba takes about 4 hours. The driver will then take the car and passengers by ferry to Samosir Island, also known as Shamoshisi Island.
[Option 2] Alternatively, take the airport bus or hire a car, which will also take about 4 hours to reach the Parapat dock at Lake Toba.

[Option 3] For a more adventurous route, take a 50-minute ferry ride 🚢 to Samosir Island, also known as Shamoshisi Island, which is roughly the size of Singapore.
