Discover God’s Emerald: The Ultimate Hiking Paradise in North Sumatra, Indonesia
[RainbowR] Indonesia-North Sumatra-Lake Toba
[PlaneR] Route: [OneR] From all corners of the country, you can connect through Kuala Lumpur and reach Kualanamu Airport in Medan in just 45 minutes (visa on arrival for $35, 500,000 IDR, or 250 RMB). Malaysian passport holders enjoy visa-free entry. During your flight, you’ll have a breathtaking view of the Malacca Strait.

Upon landing, hop on an airport bus or hire a car. We opted for a 7-seater with a Chinese-speaking driver, costing RMB 575 (375 horse coins) per day. This comfortable ride accommodates four passengers, with the back row reserved for luggage. The scenic drive to Lake Toba’s Parapat pier takes about 4.

5 hours. The driver will guide both the vehicle and passengers across by ferry to the enchanting Samosir Island, also known as Shamoshisi Island.
[TwoR] For those eager to explore the rainforest, the journey from the airport to Bukit Lawang, the gateway to the World Heritage Site of Leuser Volcano National Park, is a 3-hour drive along the highway.

You can either venture out on your own or hire a knowledgeable guide (70 euros per person per day) to delve into the national park’s wonders.
[ThreeR] If you’re heading straight from Bukit Lawang to Lake Toba’s Parapat pier, it’s a 6.5-hour drive. However, it’s more efficient to go directly from the airport to Lake Toba, which takes around 4 hours, either by bus or hired car.

[FourR] Along the way, you’ll pass by the majestic Sibayak Volcano 🌋, the formidable Sinabung Volcano 🌋, and the charming town of Brastagi. Note that buses and cheaper hired cars typically don’t stop here.
[FiveR] Finally, you’ll arrive at the Parapat pier of Lake Toba, where a 45-minute ferry ride (the last one departs around 7 PM) will take you to the idyllic Samosir Island.

[SixR] Once on the island, let your spirit roam free and explore the picturesque spots shown in the picture. It’s highly recommended that women bring a red dress—perfect for capturing stunning photos.
[SevenR] To return to Medan or the airport, simply retrace your steps along the same route.

[PolaroidR] Must-see attractions in Medan include the opulent Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion, the regal Maimun Palace, the grand Mosque🕌, and the serene Catholic Church⛪️.
