Discover Lake Toba: World’s Largest Volcanic Lake, Trust Our Tourist Photo Experience
Lake Toba, a breathtaking volcanic lake nestled in the northern part of Sumatra Island, Indonesia, on the Mada Plateau, is not only the largest freshwater lake in the country but also holds the title of the world’s largest volcanic lake.

To embark on this adventure, start with a 45-minute flight from Kuala Lumpur to Kualanamu Airport in Medan. During the journey, you’ll have a stunning aerial view of the Strait of Malacca. Upon arrival, you can either catch the airport bus or hire a car. For a group of four, a seven-seater vehicle with a Chinese-speaking driver is a great option, costing around RMB 600 (365,000 IDR) per day, which can be shared among the travelers.

Additionally, budget for round-trip toll fees, approximately RMB 90 (57,000 IDR), and the round-trip ferry fare, which includes transporting the car, at about RMB 230 (140,000 IDR). Make sure to leave ample space in the back for luggage. The drive to Parapat dock of Lake Toba takes around 4 hours, where the driver will then take the car and passengers by ferry to the enchanting Samosir Island, also known as Shamoshisi Island.

While in Medan, don’t miss these must-see attractions:
– Zhang Ahui’s Former Residence
– Maimun Palace
– Grand Mosque
– Catholic Church

For those who prefer a more scenic route, consider stopping at these natural wonders along the way (note that buses and low-cost hired cars may not make these stops):
– Sibayak Volcano
– Sinabung Volcano

My suggested itinerary spans 4 days and 3 nights, but extending it to 5 days and 4 nights is also a fantastic option.
