Discover the Ultimate Komodo Liveaboard Experience | Booking Tips & Guide
🦈 The Komodo liveaboard experience was undoubtedly the highlight of my Indonesian adventure. Before setting off, I wrestled with the decision to embark on a liveaboard, weighing the potential for seasickness and safety concerns. However, the journey exceeded all expectations. The post-trip withdrawal was so intense that every day after leaving Komodo, I found myself reliving the enchantment and beauty of the place.

🚢 Itinerary:
Day 1:
1️⃣ Kelor Island – Our first snorkeling stop, where baby sharks can be spotted from the shore, adding an exciting touch to the beginning of our adventure.
2️⃣ Majerite – This second snorkeling spot offers deeper waters, and the absence of other boats within 500 miles allowed us to fully immerse ourselves in the vast, serene sea.

3️⃣ Kalong Flying Foxes – As the sun dipped below the horizon, thousands of bats took flight, creating a breathtaking spectacle that left us in awe of nature’s wonders, truly feeling like we were part of this magical island 🏝️.
Day 2:
1️⃣ Padar Island – We set foot on the island at 4:30 am, scaling the mountain that resembles the landscape of the Legend of Zelda.

Watching the sunrise at around 6 am, the first rays of light illuminated the entire scene, making it feel like we had stepped into another world.
2️⃣ Pink Beach – Discovering that pink beaches actually exist was a delightful surprise. Snorkeling here, you can even see the vibrant pink coral beneath the waves.

3️⃣ Komodo – In Komodo National Park, we had the incredible opportunity to observe the elusive Komodo dragons up close, a truly unforgettable encounter.
4️⃣ Manta Point – This was hands down my favorite snorkeling spot. The crew whisked us away by speedboat to a location where manta rays gather to feed.

Diving in, we were surrounded by countless mantas, an exhilarating experience that left me almost choking on water in excitement. To top it off, I even spotted some turtles, a sight I missed out on during my visit to the Similan Islands.

🎫 Planning and booking the liveaboard was the most challenging part of the trip. You can either go through a local travel agency or book online. The boat I finally chose cost just RMB 1000 per person, and we had a four-person cabin all to ourselves. The package included snorkeling, snacks, meals, and drinking water.

I haven’t come across anyone on Little Red Book who managed to get a better deal. The cabin, while not luxurious, was comfortable with air conditioning, and the overall value for money was excellent. There were no hidden costs, and we felt the experience was well worth it. We tipped the crew as a token of our appreciation when we disembarked.

📝 Items to Prepare for the Liveaboard Adventure:
1️⃣ Motion sickness medicine: Even if you’re not prone to seasickness, it’s wise to pack some just in case. Two days and one night at sea can be a real challenge if the waves decide to test your stomach.
2️⃣ Snorkel mask and breathing tube: While the boat does offer basic snorkeling gear free of charge, these items are used repeatedly by many. For your peace of mind and hygiene, bringing your own set is highly recommended.
3️⃣ Snacks and drinks: The onboard cuisine might not suit everyone’s taste buds. Packing some of your favorite snacks and beverages can make a huge difference, especially when you need a quick energy boost or a comforting treat.
4️⃣ Disposable bed sheets, towels, toiletries, and sun-protective clothing: These essentials will ensure you stay comfortable and protected from the elements. Don’t forget to bring a good sunscreen and a wide-brimmed hat to shield yourself from the sun.
5️⃣ Entertainment: Since the boat is often out of signal range, bring some fun games like playing cards or UNO. It’s a great way to break the ice and enjoy some quality time with fellow travelers from around the world.
