Discovering Hidden Gems: Why Bali Surpassed My Expectations of Beauty

Komodo Island is a pristine and well-developed gem, even more so than Bali.
🌅 While Bali is ideal for extended stays, Komodo Island is the perfect getaway for busy professionals with limited vacation time, offering a refreshing escape from the daily grind.

❓ How to Get to Komodo Island
✈️: The gateway to Komodo Island is Labuan Bajo Komodo Airport. Currently, there are direct flights available from both Bali and Kuala Lumpur. For the most convenient travel, it’s recommended to fly directly from Kuala Lumpur to Komodo.

The true essence of Komodo Island lies within Komodo National Park (Taman Nasional Komodo), home to the legendary Komodo dragons. However, due to its protected status, the airport and most accommodations are located on the neighboring island of Flores. You can also opt to stay on one of the charming small islands nearby, some of which boast exclusive hotels that occupy the entire island.

🛖 Accommodation
While the island where the airport is located offers a selection of mid-to-low-end hotels, staying at a hotel on one of the surrounding small islands provides a truly immersive experience. This time, I chose Pirate Island (Le Pirate Island), a tiny paradise run by a Frenchman. The island is a snorkeler’s dream, with vibrant coral reefs (reconstructed by the hotel) and an array of colorful fish.

For those seeking luxury, Sebayur Island is home to many high-end resorts, but be sure to book in advance.

1️⃣ The highlight of any Komodo trip is the liveaboard experience | Image 14 (spend three days on a boat, visiting six stunning islands). However, avoid the rainy season from January to February, as most liveaboards suspend operations during this time.

3️⃣ Komodo National Park | Images 15-16: If you’re lucky, you might spot Komodo dragons basking on the beach. Local guides will also take you into the dense jungle to track these magnificent creatures.
