Discovering Surabaya, Indonesia: Why Visiting Mount Bromo Late Was Worth It

[SelfieR] The tourism system in Surabaya, Indonesia, is very well-developed, with all kinds of large and small tour groups available. I can also recommend some here.

[KissR] My itinerary was 4 days in Bali – then to the Ijen volcano in Surabaya – Sewu waterfall – Bromo volcano. For Bali and the Ijen volcano, I have mentioned them in previous posts. If you are patient, beauties and handsome folks, you can check out the previous posts.

[FacepalmH] Bromo itinerary:
1️⃣ Wake up at around 2 or 3 AM. A jeep will be arranged to pick you up (P14, you will take a photo with the jeep at the end, it’s very photogenic). Drive for a while and then get stuck at the foot of the mountain (there are many people). First, walk to a market where you can drink water and have breakfast.

2️⃣ Start climbing the mountain at around 4 AM, walk for about ten minutes to the top (this is not Bromo, Bromo is the mountain we are viewing, which is the cover photo), P2, 3, you can enjoy the sunrise.

3️⃣ After the sunrise, you can take photos with Bromo, P4, 5, 6. There are many online tutorials on how to take photos, but there are also many people. I avoided the crowds, and no matter how you take the photos, they look good [SelfieR].

4️⃣ After watching the sunrise, it’s time to climb Bromo. You will first go to the foot of the mountain, then choose whether to ride a horse. The rainbow ponies are so cute [CoverFaceR], who can resist? If you ride a horse, it covers both going up and down the mountain, but you need to climb stairs to reach the crater, as the horse can only go to the bottom of the volcano.

5️⃣ Taking photos at the crater requires courage, P11, 12, 13. There are places that are very close but also dangerous.

6️⃣ After everything, return to the jeep. In the end, the jeep will find a spot to park and help you take photos, P14.

[KissR] Overall, the local guide arranged everything very well. Although we changed jeeps, the local guide and driver accompanied us the whole time, and when our flip-flops broke, they even helped us fix them for a long time [SadR].

[CryR] It was really beautiful. I regret going so late. It was the first time I was so close to a smoking active volcano.
